Learning at VISA

VISA offers a dynamic, nurturing, and positive learning environment where a child’s curiosity is stimulated, leadership skills are cultivated, and fun-filled interactive learning is meaningful and focused. A low teacher-student ratio and small class sizes (approximately 14-20 students per class) provide an ideal environment for learning.

Outdoor Education

Our Outdoor Education Program engages students in activities that enrich their curricular understanding, present a multitude of benefits from exploring and enjoying our natural heritage, to inspiring them to be active stewards of the environment.

Outdoor education supports a key component of VISA's Global Leadership Program as it is experiential in nature and embraces the school’s values. Students are offered a wide range of opportunities that align with the program’s 10 demonstrations of global leadership where they learn to experience, lead and act.

Experiential learning through outdoor education helps build perseverance and resilience, offering students an opportunity to push themselves outside of their comfort zones and to challenge their physical and mental capabilities.

Through our access to the school’s outdoor education property, and a series of progressively more challenging off-campus trips and excursions, our program encourages intellectual, emotional and social development, leadership as well as age-appropriate risk taking within a safe learning environment.

Community Service

The Community Service Program at VISA's is fundamental to the delivery of the Global Leadership Program and to the development of responsible and engaged students. From Kindergarten to Grade 12, students are provided with opportunities to engage and learn with community members in meaningful ways, both within and beyond the classroom walls. Building connections between the curriculum and what is happening in the world at large, is essential to the VISA's vision of developing courageous agents of ethical and positive change, true to Quaker values.

In Junior School, the Foundation Years Program focuses on inquiry, creativity, and collaboration. In the Junior School, students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 use a strategic method of inquiry while Grades 3-5 use the computational Thinking (Integrated Thinking) model for inquiry. Both methods of inquiry enable metacognition and creative problem solving in our classrooms, effectively helping students delve deeper into topics.

The Co-curricular Program at VISA is a valuable and fundamental part of each student’s education, growth, and health. It contributes to school spirit, developing healthy, active lifestyles and a balanced program that exposes students to a range of activities they might not otherwise be willing to try. Therefore, the age-appropriate Co-curricular Program is a mandatory part of VISA’s educational experience for students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 9.
